Africa Uganda Expedition!
Our newest African adventure directly from the foot of Mount Elgon, the oldest volcano in Africa, emerging from savanna that is the home of wild African buffalos.
Uganda is located on similar bed rock as Kenya. Volcanic soil full of nutrients and minerals is the perfect precondition for exceptional coffee. The only issue has been the economic situation in Uganda. It remains a rather poor country with limited technologies.
We supported the Sironko Coffee Yard processing plant by buying the Kuku lot. The plant is located in the East Mbale region at the foothill of Mount Elgon that extends directly to Kenya. In 2018, the plant was established by Norman Mukuru, the Uganda exporter of green coffee beans, who has been fighting for improvement of living conditions of local farmers.
Approx. 230 small famers bring the cherries to the plant. Cherries are then fully washed or dried. This lot was dried by the natural method. After sorting out the cherries carefully they were dried up to 20 days on shaded African beds and then peeled. High elevation above 2,000 m results to long lasting drying process and hence complex taste.
This coffee is meant for espresso machine, but you can use it also like filter. Expect intensive taste of blueberries, ripe red apples jasmine and herbal, tonic-like aftertaste.
