Dust form active volcanos, smell of tropical forest, screaming monkeys, dangerous caimans in mangrove stands…. Backpacking with your camera and desire for adventure over Central Cordillera up to the sandy beaches on the border to Panama… that’s our expedition to the heart of Costa Rica.
Costa Rica is the most developed and safest country in Central America. It was the first country in Central America that focused the agriculture on production and export of coffee and bananas. Costa Rican coffee has a full, neat and pleasant taste and is meant for day drinking.
The coffee from the Hunters Coffee Expedition limited edition will introduce you to the elegant coffee sort of Bourbon and Catuaí processed by the back honey method.
Farmer Diego owns the Hacienda Sonora farm, located at the foothill of Poas Volcano. It is the volcano that provides all the energy that is used on the farm. Hydroelectric generators use the water from rivers going around the volcano.
As for the coffee processing, Diego owns the entire infrastructure necessary for coffee production incl. so called micro mill. He is renting the plant to other farmers which allows increasing the quality of coffee production in the region as well as processing unique lots often of experimental nature. It also develops and perfects the honey method that reduces the use of water as compared to washing the coffee beans. The honey method is water safe, and therefore we endorse this method.
The coffee will excite you by its full taste and aroma of plums, chocolate, pommegrade and grapes.
Coffee beans are roasted in the Loring S7 Nighthawk machine that uses convection for spreading heat, i.e. hot air. This method allows working precisely with taste nuances of this coffee and maintain juiciness and sweetness.
