How to prepare the best coffee in the nature, on a trip, in the wild?
How to combine traveling with the preparation of a luxurious cup of coffee? Forget heavy kettles and coffee makers. With aeropress, it's a piece of cake - and you also have great coffee ready in a few minutes.
What is aeropress?
Aeropress is a revolutionary way of making coffee. It innovatively uses a combination of coffee filtration through a paper filter and pressure - the result is excellent coffee. The big advantage is that this coffee preparation is very fast - aeropress is therefore an ideal travel companion.
Aeropress may look unconventional (simply two plastic cylinders), but it gives excellent results.
How to prepare coffee in an aeropress - a classic method?
Aeropress offers us several ways to prepare coffee. The most common is the so-called classical method.
When preparing coffee in the classic way, you first insert a paper filter into the aeropress. Then place the aeropress on a cup (mug or other container) in which you will prepare coffee. An important step you should not forget is to rinse the paper filter with hot water. Thanks to this, you will get rid of the paper taste, which would otherwise affect the final taste of the coffee.
For one dose you will need about 17 grams of coffee (about 3 tablespoons) ground medium coarsely. Pour hot water over the coffee (ideally at a temperature of 93 °). Wait 10 seconds and mix. Then insert the moistened plunger and push the coffee into the cup with steady pressure. If you chose the coarser ground coffee, increase the extraction time.
How to make coffee in an aeropress - the reverse method?
The second way in which aeropress coffee can be prepared is the so-called reverse method. Unlike the classic method, it offers the possibility of perfect control over the extraction time.
In the reverse method, first place the aeropress on the piston - so that it is inserted into the body. Add coffee (again about 2 tablespoons, ie about 17-20 grams of coffee). Pour one third of water over the coffee. With this method, it is better if the water is a little colder, preferably 84 ° C. Then let the coffee extract for half to two minutes (choose the extraction time according to your taste - the longer you let it extract, the denser the taste will be). Finally, screw the filter with the holder into the strainer and turn it quickly onto the cup. Then just press the coffee into the cup with steady pressure.
Aeropress and its maintenance
Like other coffee brewing tools, aeropress needs care - even on the go. The big advantage is that the maintenance of the aeropress is so simple that you can easily do it even on a trip. If you want to clean the aeropress, first unscrew the plastic holder of the paper filter. Then fully depress the piston. By doing this you lose both the coffee filter and the coffee grounds. All you have to do is rinse everything with clean water.
Remember to do this after each use of the aeropress. Otherwise, the coffee grounds may start to moldy.
Advantages and disadvantages of aeropress
The huge advantages of aeropress include that it is compact, light and unbreakable. Its maintenance is very simple. At the same time, it provides the possibility of preparing high-quality coffee in any environment. It is therefore an ideal companion for trips and excursions.
Disadvantages of the aeropress may include the need to have at least three components with you to assemble the aeropress. On the other hand, every other option (of comparable quality) is much less difficult to store and more difficult to maintain.
Other coffee options on the go
Of course, Aeropress is not your only option. You can always reach into the french press or, for example, a mocha teapot. Anyway, both devices can be too heavy in your backpack. Despite the fact that most French presses run the risk of breaking. Another option could be the Dripper V60, but here is a longer preparation time.
